CONSENSUS 101: A ONE DAY WORKSHOP
Sunday July 20, 2008 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Santa Monica, CA

Used by intentional communities, activist organizations, religious &
spiritual groups, nonprofits, and others, consensus is a powerful process
for collaborative decision making and building group cohesion. However, it
is not something that comes naturally to those of us who’ve grown up in an
individualistic, competitive culture!
This experiential full-day workshop serves as an introduction for those new
to consensus and a refresher for those who feel their community or
organization may not be using it most effectively. We'll focus on
collaborative decision-making tools you can really use!

 Workshop topics include:

• Definition(s) of consensus
• Why use consensus?
• When not to use consensus
• What factors help/hinder consensus
• How to “do” consensus: the process
• What to do when it doesn’t work

Workshop fee: $100

Workshop leader Eris Weaver is a Facilitator & Group Process Consultant who
specializes in working with intentional communities and nonprofits. She is a
resident of FrogSong cohousing community in Cotati.

About our location:
Anima AcresWe are very pleased to be holding this course at Animal Acres, the Los Angeles farmed animal sanctuary and compassionate living center directed by Farm Sanctuary co-founder Lorri Bauston.

RoosterThe sanctuary is a refuge for animals, and a sanctuary for the soul. Farmed animal sanctuaries are a place where cows, pigs, and chickens reach out and touch the human heart. The “animal ambassadors” gently teach people to extend compassion to ALL beings through one-on-one interaction. For many people, it is the first time they have ever looked into the eyes of pig or chicken, and it can profoundly affect the way people view and treat farmed animals.

Animal Acres is located in Acton, CA., a 45-minute drive from central Los Angeles.

On-site camping will be available for course participants for an additional $100. per registrant.

Course Fee:

$700. includes all course materials and vegan meals during the course.

"If there is any positive side to stark changes coming our way, it may be in the benefits of close communal relations, of having to really work intimately (and physically) with our neighbors, to be part of an enterprise that really matters and to be fully engaged in meaningful social enactments instead of being merely entertained to avoid boredom.

ATTENTION PERMACULTURE GRADUATES (POSTED 6/6/08):

Please Save the Date!
1st Annual Southern California Permaculture Convergence
August 29-31, 2008

Dear Permaculture Community,

We would like to invite PDC graduates to the 1st Annual Southern California Permaculture Convergence, August 29-31, 2008, hosted by the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network and Quail Springs Learning Oasis and Permaculture Farm.

We hope to kick-start this effort of a Regional Convergence, allowing others to take over in the future. As organizers for this first convergence we hope to move past any barriers caused by lack of time, available sites, or even teacher territories that might exist, and instead just recognize the work and accomplishments of all, and proceed from there with the important work around connecting individuals and communities in the region.  We feel a certain urgency in these times, but feel permaculture and this amazingly creative permaculuture community that exists in Southern California is up to the task!

We have been working hard to accomplish organizing this event with little time, so we ask for your patience.  We have a Convergence website that will be up soon with a registration process designed to be easy and efficient for everyone (hopefully
J ).

We will share an invitation with details about the event to this list when registration opens sometime in the next couple weeks.  If you are concerned that you might miss the announcement on the general list, you are welcome to email Kolmi Majumdar at info@quailsprings.org to join the Convergence interest list. A discount is offered with full payment when you register online before July 1st.   Those on the Convergence interest list will be emailed when the Convergence website is up to register online.  Please note that the Convergence will be limited to 50, because of site restrictions, and you must have a Permaculture Design Course certificate (72 hour Curriculum certificate) to attend.

If you have any images you would like to share (with captions) of  your permaculture site or projects, we would love to highlight those by having them be a part of the Southern California Convergence website.  Please forward images to our webmaster, John Calvert jc@virtualtribes.net

An ad is in the current issue of the Permaculture Activist (see attachment), placed to meet their deadline, but a little early for us!  Again, thanks for your patience, and we hope you can join us at a groundbreaking event for our region.
